A Bit About Me
Hello! My name is Mimi Alvarez and I am a retired nurse turned artist, now fully embracing my roles as an illustrator and designer. Nestled on Bainbridge Island in the picturesque Pacific Northwest, I’ve journeyed far from my birthplace in Cuba. My aspiration? To spread joy through my art, just as creating it brings me joy. After all, the world could always use more beauty and happiness!
Art has been a constant companion throughout my life, especially in the vibrant hues that inspire me. I vividly remember my first experience with creativity: my grandmother gifting me art supplies, sparking a delight that led to my very first drawing—a dazzling monarch butterfly.
My nursing career was fulfilling, allowing me to guide others on their healing journeys. But two pivotal moments reshaped my path. In 2013, a breast cancer diagnosis caused me to reassess my priorities and redefine how I wished to embrace life. Then in 2020, the pandemic ushered in job loss as a nurse educator, prompting me to delve deeper into the essence of who I am. This unexpected turn led me to reconnect with my true self, and thus, my art flourished.
Every print and pattern is designed, hand-illustrated and created by me using Procreate as my digital canvas. I do not use AI in any part of my creative process.
I believe in giving back to my community. A percentage of the profits will be donated to the non-profit organizations on Bainbridge Island that promote art, culture and humanities.
